A magnetic live act, the group draws on a diverse palette of European folk music, conjuring original songs that combine Balkan and Western musical traditions into a brave new world of magic, mystery, emotion and humour.
Led by the charismatic and improbably deep-voiced Mikelangelo, each of the Black Sea Gentlemen, a front man in his own right, will take turns assuming the role of singer and storyteller. Each weaves tales tall and true, of epic and absurd adventures, illicit love and bittersweet hope, over land and sea. Each shines as a formidable artist and entertainer.
Cherished by audiences and critics alike, the group has played sold out main stage shows at almost all major arts and music festivals in Australia and New Zealand and have made waves on the festival circuit in the UK and EU to build a diehard international following.
After a few years’ hiatus, the ensemble are ready to journey together again, blown by the four winds through time and memory, to converge on the shores of the Far South Coast. And the word is: When Mikelangelo and the Gentlemen show up in your town, “make sure you get a seat.”
Mikelangelo and the Black Sea Gentlemen are participating in an Artist Residency at Four Winds and will present two performances in the Windsong Pavilion on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th January 2021. The concerts will include a special guest performance by violinist Eric Avery.
The performances will have an interval and there will be a bar. There are no concession tickets available. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, this event has limited audience capacity. Bookings are essential.
Mikelangelo and the Black Sea Gentlemen performances are presented in partnership with South East Arts.

“These are performers at the top of their game…a perfect balance of light and dark”
★★★★★ – The Scotsman (UK)
At some point in the murky past Mikelangelo and the Black Sea Gentlemen slipped into Oz and have been assiduously undermining our morals ever since. That they nearly get away with it is thanks to those most insidious of qualities: charm and talent.
★★★★ – John Shand, Sydney Morning Herald
“Mikelangelo and the Black Sea Gentlemen should be made national treasures, pronto!”
