#avant-garde-jazz // Suitable for all ages // Food Truck & Bar from 1:30pm

Revered music trailblazers and one of Australia’s great cult bands, The Necks, release their 20th studio album Bleed and prepare for their next Australian tour.

Immerse yourself in an utterly unique soundscape as The Necks, one of Australia’s most revered music trailblazers, take the stage at Four Winds. With their latest album, Bleed, this iconic trio invites you to a captivating long-form exploration of sound inside the Windsong Pavilion. This new album features a single, 42-minute composition that explores the ethereal beauty of stillness, decay, and the profound space in between. As Bassist Lloyd Swanton puts it, “I think this is easily the stillest album we’ve ever done.”

Since their inception as a private jamming project over thirty years ago, The Necks have become a global phenomenon, captivating audiences with their compelling improvisations and entrancing melodies. Their music is often described as a magic act, casting a trance-like spell that makes an hour feel like mere moments.

“The Necks have become, and remain, one of the most arresting and sophisticated bands on the planet.”

The Quietus (UK)

Comprised of the innovative trio Chris Abrahams (piano), Lloyd Swanton (bass), and Tony Buck (drums/percussion), the Necks are set to mesmerise audiences with their 20th studio album, Bleed. With Bleed, The Necks create a musical experience that transports listeners into a world where time seems to stand still. UNCUT UK praises their work, noting, “The Necks transmute a procession of simply stated moments into something transcendent.” Each performance is a journey into the unknown, where the trio embarks on spontaneous explorations, evolving their music into textures that defy description.

“The Necks transmute a procession of simply stated moments into something transcendent. Bleed is more about wayward drift than some of The Necks’ most-loved albums, but there’s tenderness in its seeming austerity, and beauty in its chill.’”

The Necks

The Necks are one of the great cult bands of the world. Chris Abrahams (piano) Tony Buck (drums) and Lloyd Swanton (bass) conjure a chemistry together that defies description in conventional terms.

The Necks are revered internationally for their improvisational prowess and hypnotic live performances, featuring lengthy pieces which slowly unravel, shift and metamorphose. Their approach emphasizes real-time composition, where each performance is a spontaneous creation, making every live show a completely unique experience.

Formed in Sydney in 1987, The Necks have operated with the same line-up for more than thirty years. They have released over 20 live and studio produced albums to outstanding critical acclaim. The Necks studio albums are often intricately layered in the mixing process and can feature additional instrumentation. The deceptive simplicity of their music throws forth new charms on each hearing.

The Necks have collaborated with Brian Eno, Underworld, Swans, and Back to Back Theatre, as well as composing the score to legendary Australian feature film The Boys. They have received multiple awards, including the 2019 Richard Gill Award for Distinguished Services to Australian Music.
