Queen Porter Stomp use their dirty swamp magic to shirk those Prohibition blues, swinging skirts and scuffed shoes for hardwood and concrete dancefloors alike. This is jazz where swing is the key you play, Melody is your gypsy mistress, and signature is what you’re trying to avoid committing to paper until you have a shot of bootlegged whisky. They pack horns that scream straight into your soul, squeezed tight into a caravan they’ve taken up and down and through the smoke and mud of the festival circuit, supporting the hardened and never weary. Favourites at the Marrickville Music Festival and Gasoline Pony in Sydney, Queen Water Stomp have headlined at the Candelo Village Festival, the International Women’s Jazz Festival, Newcastle Live, Manly Jazz Festival, Orange Winter Jazz Festival, at the Australian Museum and the Summer Hills Folk Festival.

Crystal Barreca
Crystal Barreca is a composer, arranger, trumpet player and vocalist of various musical genres, who entertains audiences around Australia. Based in Sydney, she has recently recorded her Dreaming EP that blends reggae, jazz and soul to create her original grooving, exotic pop music. With her sweet soulful voice and catchy compositions, she is creating a buzz within the Sydney music community and surrounding cities. Her band is made up of incredible musicians, friends, and longtime collaborators that each bring their own touch and worldliness to the heart of the band. The past two years have seen Crystal share the stage with the likes of Lanie Lane, Sirens Big Band, Dan Barnett, Jeff Duff, and supported The Royal Crown Review and James Morrison. She has performed at many major festivals throughout Australia including The Sydney Festival, Darling Harbour Jazz Festival, Brisbane Festival, Manly Jazz Festival and Capital Jazz Festival.
Louise Horwood
Louise Horwood is a skilled and highly qualified teacher, conductor, and performer. With a Bachelor of Music (Honours) from the Australian National University and current study for the Master of Teaching (Secondary) degree from the University of New England, Louise has enjoyed teaching and conducting at a number of schools including Emanuel College, Canberra Grammar School, Leichhardt Public School and a number of primary schools in Canberra for Musicorp Australia. Louise is an accomplished performer involved in the Sydney Women’s Jazz Collective, Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra, Sonic Mayhem Orchestra, Australian Army Band and more.
Rose Foster
Rose Foster is a prominent trombonist and music educator based in Sydney, known for her dynamic presence in the jazz and school music scenes. Rose holds the lead trombone position in the Sirens Big Band, an all-female jazz ensemble celebrated for its innovative projects, such as the cross-cultural collaboration Bridge of Dreams with saxophonist Sandy Evans and Indian classical musicians. She also performs with the Divergence Jazz Orchestra, contributing to their 2023 album Shadows and Light. Her versatility extends to groups like The Royal River Rats, a band rooted in post-swing and early rock’n’roll style. Beyond performance, Foster is deeply involved in music education. She leads jazz improvisation classes at Turramurra High School. Her teaching roles extend to various school band programs across Sydney, where she is recognized for her engaging and supportive approach. Rose’s discography includes The Journeyman Suite (2024) released on ABC Jazz, and she has contributed to projects like Andrée Greenwell’s Listen to Me, which features contemporary Australian poetry set to music. Her performances have been showcased at events such as the Orange Winter Jazz Festival, Manly Jazz Festival and Brass on the Grass, highlighting her active engagement in Australia’s live music scene.
Alex Masso
Alex Masso is a drummer/percussionist with wide ranging experience in different styles of music and educational settings. He studied Jazz Performance at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and has played professionally for over 25 years. Alex is best known in the music scene for his work as drummer and co-leader with The Vampires, a world-roots-jazz group that have released seven albums and performed all over Australia and parts of Europe on more than 20 tours, from regional community halls to major jazz festivals. In 2017 the band was nominated for an ARIA Award and the first jazz group to be shortlisted for the prestigious Australian Music Prize for The Vampires Meet Lionel Loueke, in 2023 they won an ARIA (Best Jazz Album) for Nightjar. Alex performs with a number of other bands including Lyre Byrdland, The Roslyns and Electric Korma, as well as freelance work playing a range of genres (rock/pop covers, jazz, blues, reggae and funk music). Alex has been teaching since 2007 at schools in Sydney and the Wollongong Conservatorium of Music. He is passionate about teaching drums and percussion, particularly developing the reading, technical and aural skills to thrive in a wide range of musical situations and helping students pursue their interests while also exploring different styles and enriching students’ musicality. He teaches young beginners through to intermediate-advanced levels, and regularly works with students through their HSC Music preparation, exams and audition preparation.
Julian Curwin
Julian Curwin is a guitarist, mostly playing electric guitar but also nylon string acoustic, banjo and slide. He is a composer and producer from Sydney and leader of The Tango Saloon, Cannibal Spiders and The Fantastic Terrific Munkle, in addition to Queen Porter Stomp. Julian’s music can also be heard in films, for example his scores for Stuart Clegg’s multi-award-winning short film Tommy The Kid (2006), and Julian Shaw’s All Blacks Don’t Cry (2010). Music by The Tango Saloon was used in the documentary Anatomy (2008).
Matt Lamb
Matt Lamb is a rising young and versatile bassist with a deep-rooted musical education who is a graduate of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, known for his versatile style and work in jazz and other genres. He has performed with groups like the jazz trio Ohh Bee Three and has a diverse performance background that includes electric bass. Matt is constantly drawing knowledge from his mentors which include the likes of Craig Scott, David Theak, Matt McMahon and Dale Barlow. In recent years Matt has played with great musicians such as Simon Barker, Dave Goodmen, Jane Irving, Dave Smith, Glenn Doig, Carl Morgan, Ben Panucci, Peter Locke, Bob Bertles, Evan Lohning, Gavin Ahearn, John Blenkhorn, Peter Farah and Steve Barry.
