Set against this cinematic wonder, Romano (piano & violin), Carla (flute & voice), perform an evocative live score that channels the hidden pulse of the fungal kingdom. The music for The Mushroom Whisperers started life as the score for Planet Fungi’s incredible Netflix film Follow the Rain which was written by Carla and Romano. For The Mushroom Whisperers, the audience are treated to the non-stop wonder of the fungi world with Carla & Romano’s music played live.

The Elektra Unconscious
The Elektra Collective Unconscious (ECU) is the brainchild of the skilled and experienced cross-genre musicians Romano Crivici & Carla Thackrah.
Romano Crivici
Romano Crivici (piano, violin, music director) is one of Australia’s leading contemporary composers/performers. A former member of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the New England String Quartet, he has also worked widely as a pianist, repetiteur and conductor. He is well known to many via his quirky, comic band The Paranormal Music Society. He was a composer, director and violinist with his group Elektra String Quartet and, these days directing from the piano, ECU (Elektra Collective Unconscious).
Crivici has been commissioned by many organisations and ensembles. His most recent projects are recording his String Quartets 4 & 5, released on ABC Classics, and music for the films The Last Violin (SBS TV) and Follow the Rain (Netflix).
Carla Thackrah
Carla Thackrah (flute & vocal) has had comprehensive classical music training, she performs an eclectic mix of styles from free improvisation, baroque music, and orchestral playing to world music. She was a principal flute with the Opera Australia Orchestra based at the Sydney Opera House. She has performed as guest principal with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra (SSO), the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO), the Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO), and the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. She has also
performed with contemporary and world music ensembles, including David Ahern’s A-Z Music, the Lindsey Kemp Contemporary Dance Co., Seymour Group, and Tango Paradiso. She is also a multi-award-winning filmmaker. Her film The Last Violin has recently garnered two Best Documentary awards in Europe and is presently screening on SBS On Demand.
