Fred Leone
Fred Leone is an Initiated Garrwa man and a respected Badjtala Songman with Aboriginal, Tongan and South Sea Islander heritage. A cultural custodian and musical innovator, Fred is one of a handful entrusted with preserving and performing Badjtala language and song. He has toured globally for over a decade, sharing stages with Public Enemy, Tinariwen, John Butler and Xavier Rudd among others. He represented Australia at Eurovision 2024 as a guest artist with Electric Fields. Known for blending traditional language, instruments, and stories with hip-hop, soul, and spoken word, Fred is a leading voice in cultural preservation and creative resistance.
His project Yirinda (2024) in collaboration with Samuel Pankhurst, received critical acclaim, debuting on the ARIA Charts and NPR. In 2025, Fred and his cousin Birdz released their EP Gira, following the success of their track Bagi-la-m Bargan, which has had over 3 million streams and won a coveted Best Song Composed for Screen at the Australian Screen Music Awards in 2022. In 2023 Fred launched his solo track Yirimi Gundir at Dreamtime at the G, before supporting Xavier Rudd on a 5 week European tour.
Fred is a Sidney Myer Creative Fellow, NAIDOC Brisbane Music Award recipient, and founder of Impossible Odds Records—Queensland’s first Indigenous internationally distributed record label in Queensland. His multifaceted career has included roles such as Guest Artistic Director of Black Arm Band; Indigenous Arts Development Manager at QPAC; Project Manager at Monash University; Head of Indigenous Languages at State Library of QLD; and curator of major national events.
Leigh Roy Ryan (Radio for Ghosts)
Leigh Roy Ryan (Radio for Ghosts) is an award-winning Australian music producer, sound engineer, and multi-instrumentalist known for his boundary-pushing work across hip-hop, electronic, and experimental genres. With a career spanning decades, he has become a defining figure in contemporary Australian music, acclaimed for his genre-blending production and consistently forward-thinking sound.
A long-time drummer and touring member of the multi-platinum, ARIA Award-winning group Hilltop Hoods, Leigh Roy Ryan has toured globally and engineered or produced across several of the group’s acclaimed releases. In 2020, he earned an APRA Music Award for “Most Performed Urban Work” for producing their hit single Leave Me Lonely, following a 2019 ARIA nomination for Engineer of the Year.
His solo work has been equally celebrated. The album Deep Above The Noise (2016) won Best Hip-Hop Album at the Music Victoria Awards and received critical praise from outlets including Double J, Rolling Stone, and Okayplayer.
His latest EP The New Ruins features collaborations with Black Milk, Olivier St. Louis, and Natalie Slade, garnering international airplay across BBC 6 Music, KCRW, and Worldwide FM.
As one half of seminal duo Muph & Plutonic, Leigh produced multiple cult releases that helped shape the sound of Australian hip-hop, with Heaps Good becoming a national anthem of the genre. Their 2008 LP And Then Tomorrow Came was nominated for ARIA’s Best Urban Release and achieved Triple J Feature Album status.
Leigh also played a key production role on Speech Debelle’s 2009 UK Mercury Prize-winning album Speech Therapy, and produced two albums for Dialectrix, including The Cold Light of Day (2013), a finalist for the Australian Music Prize. A graduate of RMIT with Honours in Media Arts, Leigh draws on a deep academic background in film, sound design, and music production. His work is recognised for its cinematic textures, layered instrumentation, and emotional depth—fusing hip-hop’s raw energy with the sonic intricacies of jazz, soul, dub, and electronica.
