Acclaimed recitalist and soloist Stefan Cassomenos describes this concert collaboration with Australian Chamber Orchestra musicians Liisa Pallandi and Timo-Veikko Valve as a “kaleidoscopic cultural journey”, beginning and ending with the music of Maurice Ravel.
Ravel’s Rapsodie Espagnole makes “free use of melodies and ornamental figures of our Spanish ‘popular’ music.” (Manuel de Falla), while the composer’s tour-de-force Piano Trio draws inspiration from his unfinished Basque-entitled composition Zazpiak Bat. These works transport us through the soulful depths of the composer’s reconnection with his own ethnic heritage.
