The Tathra-Bermagui road is iconic to our region. A much-loved 35km stretch running parallel to the pristine coastline, its winding journey encompasses the Four Winds site, spotted gum forests, coastal vistas, rolling hills and rural farmland. Along the way are pristine beaches, streams and lakes in national parks, Yuin and settler historic sites and stories, a winery, galleries, charming wooden community halls, and – most memorably – five historic and pleasingly percussive old wooden bridges.
Locals know each twist of the road like the back of our hand. For us, the Tathra-Bermagui Road is simply the home stretch.
Part creative celebration, part cultural document, part adventure journey, through the dark times of 2021, five teams of artists from our abundantly creative region created a short site-specific performance video inspired by, and performed on, one of the iconic wooden bridges along the Tathra-Bermagui Rd.
For the 2022 Four Winds Festival the resulting series of videos, entitled Home Stretch, will be installed in locations along the road and its surrounding landscapes, creating an immersive experience for locals and visitors to the region alike.
Drive along the route south from Wallaga Lake Bridge through Bermagui or north from Tathra to see all five films in situation or visit the Bega Civic Centre to see all five as a suite, linked by a specially commissioned poem.

Wallaga Lake Bridge
Wallaga Lake Bridge becomes a stage for the Djinama Yiliga Choir to sing a welcome to Country. Bird’s eye-view aerials capture the natural beauty and ecology of Wallaga Lake and intertwine with performance footage to provide a sense of place and Country.

Murrah Bridge
Five musicians heralding from Candelo come together to perform Quiet Town, a song written by Melanie Horsnell. The song is a warm poem of love and appreciation to Melanie’s South Coast home, the lands and community of Candelo and its surrounding areas.
