On Friday November 16 2018 at the Schools Showcase Performance, Four Winds assembled over 1000 pupils from our local primary schools to join with professional artists to sing, play, perform and enjoy music in each other’s company.

Songs of place and childhood experience relevant to our children were commissioned, and for the first time, five of the primary schools surrounding Four Winds, were able to connect in song and music. Together they proudly performed, en mass and in smaller ensembles energetic and vibrant percussion and voice pieces for each other and for their audience.

Saturday 17 saw a day of rehearsals – sharing and learning with visiting artists including: The Western Sydney Youth Orchestra, The Australian Voices, Lisa Young (composer and singer) and Emma Hunt (violinist).

Then, our region’s students who have progressed their music in primary and secondary school presented their repertoire of talent in Sunday’s November 18 Festival Concert. These young people displayed their emerging skills. It was a truly heart-warming and inspiring display of talent. The commitment to their craft by these children was incredibly impressive.

Under Artistic Director, James Crabb, this new annual festival will be a celebration of young people’s music-making and a culmination of the energetic, inspirational and creative programs that Four Winds brings to our region throughout the year.

The Youth Music Festival is part of the Create and Inspire Program, You can help create music and inspire more children by supporting the Artist in Schools Campaign donation. Every little bit helps ignite a positive and rewarding future in music for our next generation of musicians. Thank you.
