Easter Festival Then and Now
Sheena Boughen, Co-founder and Chair of Four Winds (2010-2016) reflects on the origins and intentions of Four Winds as we approach our 21st Festival.
Sheena writes: Once upon a time, a writer and passionate lover of Bermagui, Mrs Neilma Gantner, suggested to a small group of friends that we put on a concert of classical music so we could enjoy high quality music ‘where we live’. “Let’s do it outdoors, pay the artists professional fees, offer delicious local oysters and invite people to join us”.
Four Winds Bermagui was born in 1991, reflecting a belief that location should be an opportunity, not an obstacle to exquisite cultural experiences.
With a strong focus on bringing people together through music and our beautiful location, the Four Winds community reflects Mrs Gantner’s values of quiet hospitality, respect for nature and a belief that music enriches our lives.
We aimed to keep it simple. With volunteers core to our being, 21 Easter Festivals and 29 years later, the Nature’s Concert Hall site at Barragga Bay is renowned for bringing artists and audiences together from across the nation and beyond.
On our 21st Easter anniversary, please bring your friends to honour this national gem. It will bring inspiration and beauty to fill your hearts – and make the world better for us all.
