The Festival has begun

Dear All,

If you are in the Barragga Bay area you will be hearing beautiful music floating through the bushland with over 60 fabulous artists rehearsing together ready to delight audiences over the Easter Weekend.

If you are in Bermagui tomorrow, Easter Friday – there are free pop-up performances around town – listen out for sounds of brass and percussion instruments and if you are passing Strangers in Paradise you’ll hear Ian Munro performing on their resident grand piano (pop-up times are below). On Friday evening there is a large free community performance on Dickinson Oval. That performance is a fundraiser for those affected by the Tathra Bush Fire so we hope everyone will be out in force to enjoy the music and support the community on the Far South Coast.

Bermagui Primary School has been buzzing all week with young people rehearsing Indigenous songs ready for the Welcome to Country on Saturday morning. They have been working with members of Jessie Lloyd’s Mission Songs Project who are also performing on Friday at the free concert for the community.

An exciting addition in the run-up to the Festival is that, we today hosted over 200 primary school children from the region to the Festival site to see a dress rehearsal and, in small groups, to meet Festival artists who introduced their instruments to and played music with the children.

Saturday and Sunday at the Four Winds site is presenting an amazing array of music inspired by many musical traditions and cultures. Middle Eastern sounds will meet Spanish songs; new music inspired by nature will be complemented by works from favourite classical composers. It’s a truly international musical journey. The program also includes music-theatre performances in the Windsong Pavilion which promise to evoke the olden days of side-show alley…prepare to be amazed! This is one of the largest festivals Four Winds has staged and we look forward to seeing you at one of the many performances.

Happy Easter!

Very best wishes
James Crabb
Artistic Director
