A private commission has resulted in a new piece composed by eminent Australian composer Peter Sculthorpe, to be premiered at the Four Winds Festival, played by Flinders Quartet with Genevieve Lacey on recorder.
Song for Neilma was commissioned to honour Neilma Gantner's contribution to the Four Winds Festival as co founder and current board member. It will be performed on Easter Sunday 2010 at our Festival site at Barragga Bay, just south of Bermagui in south eastern NSW.
Genevieve Lacey comments on the piece:
“This is a glorious addition to the 2010 Four Winds Festival. I am honored and excited to be playing with Flinders in this beautiful, lyrical piece Peter has written with such love to honor Neilma Gantner.”

On the rest of the three day program to be held this Easter, Artistic Director Genevieve Lacey has given Four Winds an Australian exclusive as the romance of renaissance Italy will be brought alive in the Australian bush by Italian maestro Paolo Pandolfo, the man who has been called the yo yo ma of the viola da gamba.
The exhilarating open air site for the Festival, close to the sea, will give people an opportunity to stretch out on the grass and dream to Melbourne group e21 singing songs of earth, sky and sea, including mediaeval Gregorian chant and songs of place from Australian Indigenous songlines with the women of the Black Arm Band.

Along with her quartet, Andrea will premiere the new work at the 2010 Four Winds Festival next Easter. Andrea vistited Bermagui in August to get a feel for the place, staying at Barragga Bay, home of the Four Winds Festival. Having immersed herself in the environment, watching the sun rise over the ocean, listening to the birds and feeling the wind on her face Andrea commented: “I don't want the music to be too descriptive, I would like it to communicate the feeling, space and beauty of this place”.
The composition will be a treat for the many keen jazz fans in the Four Winds audience who will revel in Andrea's distinctive and engaging style. You can read more about Andrea at www.andreakellerpiano.com
