Sonic Postcards

Youth Program 2 | Sunday 1 April | 10am – 1pm | Windsong Pavilion

Sonic Postcards with Holly Harrison

In this workshop, led by composer Holly Harrison, participants explore the Bermagui environment, capturing images and sounds on tablets and mobile phones to create their own sonic postcards (or sonic mosaics). The session explores approaches to listening, the relationship between sound and image, and how to layer, connect, and structure found sounds.

Split into three sections, the workshop begins with the gathering of field recordings, followed by a session on composition concepts, and then finally – the editing of the project with open-source software. Participants will work closely with the facilitators to produce an original sonic artwork which reflects the discovery of the local habitat and expresses their own individuality.

  • Participants are asked to bring an iPad to the workshop.
  • Please make sure you bring headphones to the workshop
  • If participants are lucky enough to live in Bermagui and have an available device, they can begin collecting their sounds and images now and share them if they want to, when they get to the workshop

Suitable: 8 – 16 years, all abilities
