Easter Festival Sideshow Alley

By February 3, 2018Easter Festival, News

Dear All,

It was a real joy to perform at Summer Sounds on the weekend and to collaborate with all the amazing musicians who played for us. It was great to be involved with such a diverse line-up – which at one point featured a tiger snake!

I love the unexpected, so I have created what I believe will be a delightful yet surprising event at the 2018 Easter Festival – Sideshow Alley.

On Easter Saturday evening, the Windsong Pavilion will play host to seven short performances all of which have an element of theatre and illusion about them. Presented as if the musicians were part of a Sideshow Arcade, our MC will activate the musicians who will spring to life like automata and then return to stillness. You will be immersed in a kaleidoscope of performances inspired by the mysterious world of olden-day Sideshow Alley. Sideshow Alley is repeated three times on Saturday evening and features our Festival Artists – including myself – performing in ways which certainly take us all beyond the usual conventions of performance.

There is also plenty of light at the Four Winds 2018 Easter Festival, especially during our Saturday and Sunday Sound Shell Festival days which are presented outdoors in the wonderful surroundings of Nature’s Concert Hall. The program in the Sound Shell is never far from nature. For instance, we are presenting works like the Vask’s Cello Concerto entitled ‘Presence’ the title of which is described by the composer’s note… “I mean that I am here. I am not distant. With every breath I am here in this world, with all my ideals and dreams of a better world.” Julian Smiles, the incredible cellist from the Goldner String Quartet and highly acclaimed soloist, will be performing this beautiful work on Sunday morning in the Sounds Shell.

The Four Winds Sound Shell is such a wonderful place to experience music. Sit among your friends looking at a stage framed by water and pristine bushland while you listen to world-class performers in a program which spans continents, centuries and many musical influences. What more could you ask for at Easter? Chocolate… yes, that’ll be available too.

I look forward to seeing you there and enjoying the Festival with you.

Very best wishes
